Dear Akron Public Schools Families:

The continuing uncertainty over the availability of vaccines for our teachers and staff is giving us a bit more planning time in asking you for a family decision on which form of learning you prefer for your student(s) in the final quarter of this school year.

We are doing all we can to bring back those students who want to return to in-person, classroom learning. We will continue, of course, to offer 100% remote learning as well.

But, the ever changing landscape of these matters of public health continue to present challenges. When we have a better fix on how quickly we can effectively have our staff vaccinated, our plans will move forward more quickly. This will require a sufficient and reliable supply of vaccinations. As of this time, public health officials are unable to give us that with certainty.

While we had originally planned for you to let us know your preference this week, we are instead going to give you a bit more time to make an official decision.

For now, though, we would simply like you to let us know what you think you might decide. This is not for your final choice, but simply a general request so we can plan accurately for classroom staffing, etc.

Here on our website is the survey. We'd like to hear from you on what you might be planning. Then, in February, we will be asking you for your final decision.

Sincerely,

David James, Ed.D., Superintendent Akron Public Schools
